Shloka 35 - Sri Varadarajastava

पादवुपेन्द्र सुकुमारतमाविमौ ते भूषाभरादरुणिमानमिवोद्गिरन्तौ ।

इत्थं किमस्ति सुकुमारमितीव बोद्धुं लोकत्रयेऽपि च करैः स्पृशतः पदार्थान् ॥३५॥

T: Oh, Śrī Varadarāja, also addressed as Upendra, Your feet are most delicate. Perhaps unable to bear the weight of those ornaments, they appear reddened. not only that, these beautiful red feet seem to be exploring the three worlds to find out if anything is softer and more delicate than them, and we can see their rays of grace coming and touching everything and everyone! 

Explanation: In one of His Avatāras, Bhagavān Viṣṇu appeared as the younger brother of Indra (when he was born as Vāmana to Aditi and Kaśyapa) and thus He is also addressed as Upendra. The अमरकोशः states उपेन्द्र इन्द्रावरजः चक्रपाणिश्चतुर्भुजः while listing the epithets of Lord  Viṣṇu. The feet of Lord Śrī Varadarāja appear red, soft and have a glow. Keeping this fact in mind, the poet says here that with their reddish rays, the feet are touching all creation as if exploring to find if anything or anyone is softer than them! In this Utprekṣā, he is punning on the word कर Kara which means both kiraṇa i.e. rays of llight as well as hands. Just as one touches everything by hand to see how soft it is, the rays of glow from the Lord's feet are also touching everything, ostensibly to find out how soft it is! This figure of speech is फलोत्प्रेक्षालङ्कार Phalotprekṣālaṅkāra.

Translation
Oh, Upendra, these most tender feet of Yours, under the burden of Your ornaments, are exuding a red hue, and as if to discover if anything else is as soft as they are, are touching with their glow all objects in the three worlds.
