ŚrīGuruvāyūrappan
॥ ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय ॥
जयतु जयतु देवो देवकीनन्दनोऽयं जयतु जयतु कृष्णो वृष्णिवंशप्रदीपः ।
जयतु जयतु मेघश्यामलः कोमलाङ्गो जयौ जयतु पृथ्वीभारनाशो मुकुन्दः ॥२॥
Translation: All glory and victory to this Lord, joy-giving son of Devakī, Kṛṣṇa, the beacon light of the Vṛṣṇī clan, the Dark One resembling rain-bearing clouds, the One with tender limbs, the One who unburdened the Earth of evil, the Giver of liberation, Mukunda!
Notes: The declamation, "Glory and Victory to the Lord", is more an expression of devotion than a prayer for His victory when He is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. It is a prayer.
Swami-ji quotes from Adi Śaṅkara extensively to enumerate the glories of Śrī MahāViṣṇu or Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa extolled in this stanza.
Deva is the Supreme Lord, saviour of the good and punisher of the wicked, the Eternal One.
Devakī-Nandana refers to the genesis of Kṛṣṇa, how He fulfilled her wish to be born to her.
Kṛṣṇa's glories fill thousands of pages of our scriptures, the Complete Revelation of Godhood, who at every moment gave joy, saved the good, punished the evil, protected the weak, diplomatically managed every royal situation, strategised and brought about spectacular outcomes, displayed miraculous power, knowledge, and acts of infinite love, making Him the Greatest idea of what God is and can be always. More than anything else, he is ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR PRAYER, like ŚrīGuruvāyūrappan!
The icon of the Vṛṣṇī clan was an exemplar, who brought out the best among all those royals.
Dark and handsome, he was tender-limbed for the loving Gopis. He also unburdened the Earth of the evil rulers who were pompous, cruel and self-seeking, and He did not spare even the Yadavas in the end for their misuse of power!
