षड्दोषाः पुरुषेणेह हातव्या भूतिमिच्छता ।
निद्रा तन्द्रा भयं क्रोध आलस्यं दीर्घसूत्रता ॥ ९६ ॥
If a man wants to succeed, and acquire wealth, he should eschew
Rightaway these six defects: Too much sleep, lack of energy,
Fear, anger, laziness and procrastination.
स जीवति गुणा यस्य धर्मो यस्य च जीवति ।
गुणधर्मविहीनस्य जीवनं निष्प्रयोजनम् ॥ ९७ ॥
He lives a meaningful existence
Who is full of virtues,
And whose righteous deeds are for all to see.
The one without virtues or righteousness
Lives a useless life.
सत्यं ब्रूयात्प्रियं ब्रूयान्न ब्रूयात्सत्यमप्रियम् ।
प्रियं च नानृतं ब्रूयादेष धर्मः सनातनः ॥ ९८ ॥
Speak the truth. Speak what's pleasant.
Speak not what is true but unpleasant.
To speak the pleasant truth is the timeless righteous way.
सत्येन धार्यते पृथ्वी सत्येन तपते रविः ।
सत्येन वायवो वान्ति सर्वं सत्ये प्रतिष्ठितम् ॥ ९९ ॥
There is an inviolable truth by which the earth is supported.
That truth alone makes the sun shine, and the winds blow.
Indeed, all is established in that inviolable truth.
सत्सङ्गः केशवे भक्तिर्गङ्गाम्भसि निमज्जनम् ।
असारे खलु संसारे त्रीणि साराणि भावयेत् ॥ १०० ॥
In this life, which is really meaningless and insipid,
Cultivating the company of the good, having devotion to Keshava,
And bathing in the holy Ganga- these three
Should be practised, as they are life-enhancing.
