T: Sri Shuka spoke: While the Vraja Gopas clarified to themselves who Sri Krishna was, the truth dawned on Indra too with full force. Indra came at once with the divine wish fulfilling cow, Kamadhenu, to Vraja immediately after Sri Krishna had protected the entire Gokula, with all its people and animal stock, by lifting the Govardhana. Indra was ashamed of himself for having slighted Bhagavan. He placed his head with the divine crown dazzling like the sun at Sri Krishna's holy feet. Having heard before, and now having directly experienced Bhagavan Sri Krishna's full glory, Indra had been disabused of the notion that he, Indra, was the lord of the three worlds. He said with bowed head and folded hands:

T: Indra prayed:
"Maya makes us blind oh, Lord, to Your divinity without any trace of Rajas and Tamas, the purest Sattva, the embodiment of true Knowledge. Deluded by Maya, we begin to assume you too are a physical being subject to the limitations of Guna modifications and birth and death. After all, You are incarnating Yourself only out of infinite compassion to help the good souls and to punish the bad ones and in the process give them also liberation! You rule with the firm hand of Time, and You are absolute in authority. Therefore, kindly excuse my transgressions and misdemeanours caused by my pride and arrogance! Your breaking our arrogance is entirely for our good because then we become Your devotees.  Every act of Yours is to school the derelict and ill-meaning beings. This incarnation of Yours, Bhagavan, is for the protection and upliftment of Your devotees!

Bhagavan, I pray to You, the Supreme Soul, the Lord of all. You are Vasudeva,  Sri Krishna (वासुदेवाय कृष्णाय) and the endearing Lord of devotees and pure souls. You have incarnated out of Your own sweet will, and are visible and accessible to the pure devotees as the personification of Sattvic divinity. You are the Seed of all creation, and the Indweller of all!

I feel wretched for showing rage at not being worshipped and for having brought down terrorisng rain and wind, trying to destroy the Vraja people and their cattle. I feel ashamed. Kindly forgive me as I am surrendered to You as the Supreme Master of the universe."

Bhagavan gave a beatific smile. He spoke in a voice of extreme gravity like the rumble of a cloud:

T: "Indra, My sole intention was to burst the bubble of your inflated ego and reform you once and for all. Those arrogant owing to their power and position forget their Overlord holding the staff of Time and ruling over them, i.e. Me. So when I want to shower my grace on them, I withdraw their prosperity and power as a shock treatment. May you be well and good. Go back to Amaravati and rule as I have ordered. Rule without an arrogant misappropriated sense of lordship."

t: Now Surabhi, the Kamadhenu, the mother of all cattle livestock (as we have read before), bowed low and spoke.
"Oh, Sri Krishna, the Supreme Yogi, the inner soul of all, and the creator of this whole universe! All of us, cattle, worship You as our dear God. Indra may think he is the lord but You shall always be our only Succour and God. We shall crown You, Sri Krishna, as advised by Brahma himself to us. We know Your incarnation is for world welfare."

T: Shuka continued: Having thus worshipped Bhagavan, Surabhi with her ambrosial milk, and Indra with the waters of the celestial Ganga, performed the ritual anointing ceremony of their Lord, Sri Krishna, addressing Him as Govinda. The celestial sages like Narada and Tumburu and all the gods from the heavens came and showered their offerings on Bhagavan and sang and danced in His worship.

The earth was bathed in these divine offerings and outpourings of the gods and Kamadhenu.
The moment was so auspicious that even cruel predators became Sattvic. The forests produced the greatest of flowers and fruits and grain, and the mountains conferred their rarest gems and diamonds. After worshipping Bhagavan Govinda Sri Krishna, the gods, Indra and Kamadhenu departed.
