I heard this song sung by P. Kalinga Rao looong back. I now heard a version sung recently! The words are so poignant I feel compelled to share the song lyrics here with my meaning.
Who is your true well-wisher here? - Purandaradasa
Pray, who is your well-wisher amongst these three - woman, land and wealth?
- After you bring a lady born in someone else's house, make her lord over your home, call her your better, inseparable half...When the time comes, she will shrink from even seeing you (dead).
- Calling as your own a piece of land owned by countless masters in the past, getting your Khata, building your eminent home...When life leaves you, they will throw you (body) out of that mansion at once.
- Profession, business, serving the ruler; all with deftness, craftiness, betrayals, claiming that all your wealth has been earned by your sheer brilliance...soon, who will be enjoying all this wealth you shall leave behind willy nilly?
- Surely your wife, children and near ones will mourn your passing. But once life leaves you, all this acquisition is worth nothing. The only two things that will go with you forever are your good and bad deeds - your Karma!
- Don't trust this impermanent body as yours forever. Remember Hari's feet when all is going well. Purify your mind and realise that Vitthala is your best bet after all...and praying to Him you can be truly happy!
