Wednesday, 9 November 2022 IV.16 - The Sutas and others describe in detail the glory of Prithu, an incarnation of Maha Vishnu.

What happens after King Prithu admonishes the eulogisers is astonishing. The great sages present, in their turn, urge the Vandi-Magadha-Sutas to describe in full his glories, as he is nothing short of an incarnation of Bhagavan Himself.
It reminds me of all the praise heaped by us Modi-Bhakts on our PM when the so-called liberals cringe at such praise as they are convinced India does not deserve a great leader.

Prithu's humility and his sweet words of discouragement egged on the eulogisers even more! They looked at the great sages, and as signalled by them, now described his glory in full.
नालं वयं ते महिमानुवर्णने यो देववर्योऽवततार मायया ।
वेनाङ्गजातस्य च पौरुषाणि ते वाचस्पतीनामपि बभ्रमुर्धिय: ॥
अथाप्युदारश्रवस: पृथोर्हरे: कलावतारस्य कथामृतादृता: ।
यथोपदेशं मुनिभि: प्रचोदिता: श्लाघ्यानि कर्माणि वयं वितन्महि ॥
T: "Dear King, you are a direct incarnation of Bhagavan Maha Vishnu, whose compassion has manifested you on earth. Although you have arisen from Vena's body, even Brahma cannot describe your glory adequately. Let us make it clear we are doing this prayer to you on the specific instruction from the holy sages present here."
"Maharaja Prithu, you shall uphold Dharma as never done before, and punish the errant as their true Lord. You will manifest all the powers of all the gods to protect, nurture, and develop the people in Dharma."
"Your mercy will be equal to all like the radiance of the sun. Like the seasons of rain and drought, you shall collect taxes and give back to citizens their due."
"Tolerant and forgiving of the poor and lowly, you shall yet be stern and fair in justice even to your own kith and kin, showing no favouritism."
"You shall protect royal secrets and treasury so well that nobody would be able to take advantage of you, just as no one can fathom the power of Varuna, the sea god."
"Your smiling countenance and graciousness will bring cheer and delight to all. But to enemies, you will be like a forest fire."
"You will have a keen insight into people's minds, but remain on the surface dispassionate and reactionless."
"King Prithu will honour Brahmins and follow Dharma, rendering service to the aged and the poor."
"Treating women with the respect due to mothers, he shall be so loving to his queen that she will be his equal half."
"You are the Shaktyavesha avatara (incarnation of divine powers). You are liberated and beyond worldly attachments."
"King Prithu will veritably milk the cow called Earth for the prosperity of his people. To enemies, he will be like a lion with his tail raised whom no other animal in the forest dare defy."
Now they gave a prophesy too!
"King Prithu will perform a hundred Ashwamedha Yajnas. This is considered to be the ultimate qualification for a king as that will directly make him an Indra. Knowing this and not wanting to give up his own Indra position, the current Indra will steal the Yajna horse in the final Yajna."
"King Prithu will receive spiritual instruction from Sage Sanatkumara himself,who will arrive at his palace for this purpose."
"After conquering the world, King Prithu will completely eradicate the threefold miseries of the citizens. Then he will be hailed all over the world. At that time both the suras and the asuras (gods and demons) will undoubtedly glorify his magnanimous activities."
PS: The three-fold miseries are A. Misery suffered due to acts of gods (force majeure). B. Misery caused by others. C. Misery brought upon oneself by misdeeds and omissions.
