कामं जीवति मे नाथ इति सा विजहौ शुचम् ।
प्राङ्मत्वा सत्यमस्यान्तं जीवितास्मीति लज्जिता ॥१२.७५॥
Notes: Kālidāsa paints a bitter-sweet picture of Sītā's thoughts:
" "Oh, how fortunate that my beloved lord, Śrīrāma, lives!" So saying, Sītā overcame her distress triggered by the sight of that fake head. But the next moment, she was filled with deep shame: "Oh, how unworthy am I, that my life breath did not ebb away that very instant when I beheld that head, apparently that of my lord killed in battle!"
